If You Got It, Font It!
The first step to recovery is admitting you that you have a problem. I know, because I read it on a transit bus ad.
Good morning. My name is Jay, and I’m a font addict. I have gazillions!
Backing up has never been my strong suit, but I had saved all my PC fonts when I sold my Windows machines and switched to the macbook. It almost didn’t happen, but I decided at the last minute that I would back up everything on the odd chance I (*gasp*) switched back.
Realizing that Arial Narrow wasn’t going to cut it for a logo design I was working on, I decided that I would have to scour the web for some Mac fonts. Now, because I enjoy the element of suprise, I decided that first I would try dumping a load of PC fonts into the Mac fonts folder and seeing what happens. After finding the right folder (Library/Fonts) and unzipping a mass amount of fonts, I proceeded to choose about 500 to test the waters and simply transfer them by dragging them into the Mac fonts folder.
I opened Photoshop, and Yes! They were there (and in other apps too)!
So, that was the highlight of my Mac day, but wait there’s more!
What type of fonts can I install?
Mac OS X supports PostScript Type 1, OpenType, and TrueType font formats.
How Do I Install Fonts In Mac OS X:
Mac OS X includes a font manager called Font Book that allows you to easily install them.
Or you can do it the drag and drop way:
- Before installing fonts, you should close any open applications. For some applications, new fonts do not appear in the font menu if you install them while the application is open.
- In the Finder, open the folder or disk that contains the fonts you want to install.
- Drag and drop the fonts into the Fonts folder in the Library folder.
I Don’t Like Font Book, Is There Another Font Manager For Mac?
Yes ! Check out FontExplorer! It’s Free!
Where Can I Get Some Free Mac Fonts?
How Can I Make My Own Font(s)?
It’s possible! Make your own fonts, even from your own handwriting!
In my experience, all my PC True Type fonts (that I have tried) have worked well so far, but I’ve heard of sometimes getting a downloads you get from free sites not working.
Also, if you happen to need to convert your Mac system fonts to Turkish, there is software available to download that will do that for you.

dafont.com. I found out that Mac font has the same extension with Windows font
